Terminology

Front Desk Central lets you change the words it uses so the app speaks your language. A tutoring business can say students and lessons; a med spa can say patients and treatments. Go to Settings → Terminology.

Pick your industry

Use the Industry dropdown to choose what fits you: Salon / Spa, Tutoring, Med Spa, or Pet Grooming. This sets sensible default words for your industry — you can override any of them below.

Rename individual words

Under Custom words, you'll see a row for each of the six words the app uses:

  • client — the people you serve
  • service — a bookable offering
  • appointment — a single scheduled booking
  • staff — a team member who does the work
  • category — a grouping for your offerings
  • location — a place where you operate

Each row has a singular and a plural field. The grey placeholder shows the current default; type your own words to override it. (Click the ? next to a word for its definition.) Then click Save — you'll see "Saved. New words apply across the dashboard on your next page load." Refresh to see them everywhere.

Things to know

  • Fill in both or neither. For any word, enter both the singular and plural (or leave both blank to keep the default). If you fill only one, saving is blocked with a reminder to "Provide both singular and plural (or leave both blank)."
  • Leave a field blank to fall back to your industry default — you don't have to rename everything.
  • Words are limited to 40 characters and can't contain <, >, or other special control characters.
  • Renaming a word ripples across the whole app — the dashboard, menus, and your public booking page all update on the next page load.

The preview panel on the right shows "How your dashboard will read" with your chosen words, so you can check them before saving.
